In all probability reflecting a push in the industry to put a more human face and touch on marketing, to say nothing as to the state of the economy, in particular the state of retail today, Sage has recently launched their On the Water Tour and will invest a few weekends over the next 2 months hitting some of your (our) favorite Western fly shops.

Fully recognizing the risk of offending some, I for one applaud Sage for getting out among we “great unwashed” masses and actually spreading some cheer (sounds like Friday night happy hours in some locations) and offering not only demos but some sage (note the lower case s) instruction, tips and tricks as well.
Good marketing today doesn’t always mean crowing about the number of Instagram followers you have or vying to post breath-taking pics of the biggest fish (or breasts) from the most outrageous locations. As the sheer volume of digital noise grows exponentially, making meaningful (behavior changing) impacts as a marketer will get infinitely more challenging (understatement of the day).
And while you’ll probably have to pry my Winston all around Western river rod out of my cold dead hands one day, the Sage crew has a long and hallowed history of making damned nifty rods, and I’ll sure as hell catch one of these events, share a cold one with my fly fishing compadres and and soak up a little expertise from the best caster on the lot.
