We’re well into March; the trails around Bozeman have turned into springtime mud runs… frosty in the morning and mucky in the afternoon. Montana fishing licenses expired at the end of February, prompting a mass run into the local fly shop to renew. The rivers are slowly warming up, and locals are switching from down jackets to Nano Puffs. Spring is in the air.
I’ve been pulling together a decidedly non-Montana wardrobe out of the closet, however, as I prep for an upcoming shoot in Samoa. We’ve got a fun, international team on this one, and some fantastic clients — old and new. I’ll be shooting for a week on the island as we explore an area that has not been fly fished much… if it all. We’re all excited to see what happens, hoping for productive days on the flats and out in the blue water. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing a new part of the South Pacific and exploring new waters. I’ll be back in the States by April; look for images to start showing up shortly thereafter.
For those of you in the West, I’ll be at the Orvis Guide Rendezvous in Missoula from April 5-10; hope to see some of you there! The past two years at the Rendezvous have been fantastic and I’m excited to attend again, for the first time not as a part of Orvis staff.
Mid April brings two weeks in Texas; one for AFFTA travel and one for freelance work and (hopefully!) some down time. Here’s to another month on the road… and then back in Montana for a bit in May to get some fishing in.
On the homefront, we continue to keep tabs on the sewage effluent spill on the Gallatin River. Not much news as to how this will affect the well-loved river, and locals are eager to hear. It’s a waiting game right now, as events such as this all too often seem to be. More to come.
