Last night She Who Must Be Obeyed was digging around in the family picture albums at the behest of daughter Jess for images of her getting outside and playing in the great outdoors at a young age.
SWMBO pulled a couple of my favorites.
As any father with a woodshop and toddlers in diapers understands, rug-rats that age and power tools don’t mix well. I could keep 2 and 3 year old Jake and Jess (now 27 and 28) busy all afternoon with a bucket of water, two old paintbrushes, and instructions to repaint our first drift boat.
Worked every time.
Both the kids took their maiden drift boat voyages before their second birthdays; the Snake River through Grand Teton NP became an early family favorite, though we quickly learned that stops every hour or so to throw rocks (note the rock in flight just below SWMBO’s derriere above) were essential.
Bonus advice for parents of toddlers out there (worth every cent you’ve paid for it here) – these days go by in a relative flash.
Get out there and take the kids.
