It rained here in Bozeman Saturday; good old, gusty spring storm rains. And while we were back to bright, sunny, and frosty Sunday morning, it was a reminder that March is peeking around the corner and spring is on the way. I even broke out the flip-flops Saturday in a celebratory gesture, though I got some weird looks wandering around town.
Another column I wrote for Angling Trade came out this past week, addressing the importance of fly-fishing industry folk looking outside of our own bubble and interacting with the consumers. After attending several consumer shows again this year, I was again reminded of the importance of interacting with folks who still fish for fun; who don’t make money off it, don’t depend on the sport to pay their rent, and aren’t jaded about fly-fishing as a whole (it happens.) This column generated a lot of email commentary; give it a read here.
In other news, I finally got my act together and gathered a quick top-edit of Cuba images for a new “case study” gallery on my website. Shot last month on an assignment for Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures, the images feature the Cayo Cruz and Cayo Largo fisheries, with a bit of Havana and countryside culture thrown in for good measure. If you’re in the early spring doldrums and need some tropical images to go with your morning coffee (even if we had bad weather all week and many of the images are less-than-sunny), take a gander.
Headed out with some friends for an afternoon of fishing yesterday; after closeting myself away all day Saturday working on a project proposal (look for the details here next week… this is a good one) I needed some Montana sunshine and water at my feet.
Hope many of you did the same.
