Another winner from our South Texas based, grapefruit loving, redfish chasing and catching machine EH.

…from our chat I know you guys have been enjoying some of the grapefruit based cocktails we’ve talked about this season. It’s helped that the Ruby Reds have been danged good so far.

Here’s another one for you guys to play with – the Classic Brown Derby – supposedly out of one or more of the old Hollywood bars in LA.

The honey syrup is just a 1:1 mix of good honey and warm water (to get the honey to fully dissolve) and you need to make sure the grapefruit juice is fresh squeezed or farmers’ market fresh, it makes all the difference in the cocktail.

Grab that shaker, squeeze a few grapefruit, and go to it.

‘Nuff said.

1/2 ounce honey syrup
1 ounce fresh grapefruit juice
1 and 1/2 ounces bourbon of your choice

Garnish: Grapefruit wedge or twist

Combine all ingredients in a shaker, fill with ice and shake, shake, shake.

Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish away.

Enjoy.
