Monday Mantra: Cold Beer on a Hot Day

It was hot and sunny and we had a lot more time to kill between morning and evening hunts than we figured.  Setting up camp only takes so long.  With the river close and a new switch rod to break in we decided to hit the water.

We didn’t really expect to catch anything given the hot and bright conditions, but even with that I managed to swing up two cookie cutter rainbows right after another.  If you haven’t ever tried a glass switch rod, you should.  It is Sweet.  A couple hours passed and we caught nothing else besides a couple of sunburns.

Sitting around back at camp with no shade in 80 degree heat in waders isn’t very comfortable.  So, we decided to crack open a couple beers and head down to the river to have a seat.  As fishermen it’s sometimes rare to just sit and watch.  Look around at the surroundings.  We sat in the cool water, drinking our cold beers and looking upriver at the mountains for close to an hour.

Fall fishing is just getting going around here.  Things are going to be getting better and better.  Can’t ask for more than that.
