Busy busy busy. Life is hectic. Work, school, relationships, friends, whatever you’ve got in the way always seems to fill the schedule. You’ve got a schedule, which in and of itself can be a frightening thought at times. What happened to the plan of getting rich quick and fishing all the time?
Life happens, that’s what.
Mark’s post last week really got me thinking. Reading that made me want to drop everything and run to the river. Preferably with family, but since we are scattered all the hell over the place that makes it a little hard. Life happens, but don’t let it get in the way of what’s important. It’s easy to get wrapped up in little things and next thing you know you blink and it’s six months later.
This summer has seemed to go by much faster than the previous ones. They say time moves faster as you get older, but this year has really proven that. It’s moving scary fast. Plans fall by the wayside and if you don’t make a concentrated effort, all those cool things you talked about doing never happen. Poof, the year is gone.
The little islands of calm in the storm of a busy life should always be embraced when you find them. Last week I had to get out of the house for a bit and drove up the Gallatin Canyon. It was a hot and smoky day, and middle of the day to boot, but I needed a break. Three hours on the river and I felt like a new man.
There was no one in sight and the water drowned out most of the road noise. Little Gallatin rainbows were eager to eat a cinnamon ant. The gin clear water made watching fish come and inspect my offerings a game of nerves… Can I wait to set until he actually eats it?
The river has always been a place of calm and rejuvenation. It sets the soul and the mind right. Take all the time you need out there.
