There a lot of great things about summer.
Caddis fly hatches, early morning tricos on the Missouri, nearly 18 hours of Montana fishing light every day, the legendary Salmon fly hatch, wading wet.
Gulpers on Hebgen, Green Drakes on the Henry’s Fork and Slough Creek; hoppers, beetles, ants and wasps everywhere.
Fajitas, steak and chicken of all shapes, flavors and forms on the grill.
The bikini hatch can even make the tourist tsunami bearable some years.
But one of the very best things about summer may be the arrival of the summer seasonal beer season.
Unabashedly reveling in our regional Montana bias, Jake and I probably look forward to the arrival of Madison River Brewing Company’s Salmon Fly Honey Rye more than any other. The subtle spice of the German rye is well balanced by the mild sweetness from pure local Montana honey; it’s light, smooth and eminently drinkable when the days are long and hot.
Of course there exists a tidal wave of great summer seasonal brews out there – what are some of your absolute summer favorites stocked in the cooler these days?
