Several weeks ago we were asked if we’d be interested in reviewing an emerging cooler brand – Orion Coolers made by Jackson Kayak in Sparta, Tennessee.
I told the PR rep that we’d only do it if they’d agree to a toe to toe comparison with YETI, a challenge to which they readily agreed.
A 25-quart cooler showed up on the doorstep a week or so later, and I have to admit, we’re pretty damned impressed on first glance.
It’s been intriguing to think about devising some Myth-Busters inspired, objective tests and measures to compare one against the other as well as putting coolers through their normal use paces.
Any Orion Cooler Users?
We’d relish some input from anyone who’s been using an Orion cooler for a while; just please comment below or forward your comments via email.
Suggestions are Welcome
Any suggestions for tests or measures are more than welcome. This morning I posted a pic of an Orion cooler in our Instagram feed and someone suggested we invite another premium cooler to the throwdown party – Ice Hole Coolers. (An email has been fired off today…).
Our Review Disclosure
The cooler from Orion is a loaner with an option to purchase if we choose to do so. The YETI we’ll review is one we’ve purchased, though we’ve asked for a return and exchange consideration due to an issue we’ll talk about later. And of course none of our team work for or have worked for any cooler company or their PR teams.
More cooler research to come.
