Last night we held the first open tying night of the winter at the shop. It ended up being three guys that work there huddled around a table drinking beer in the back of a fly shop. It was pretty damn nice, actually. We don’t get much chance to just hang out as a group, and it’s always fun to tie with other people.
Tying with others can be a really beneficial thing. I don’t know about you, but I find that I can get in a rut pretty easily if I’m tying alone at home night after night. Having other people around keeps things light, and it’s always interesting to see what they’re tying, or what new materials and techniques they might have. It’s going to be a long winter, and there’s going to be a lot flies tied between now and shorts weather.
Here are a couple of things I’ve been working on lately:
And a sculpin:
Sadly, I haven’t as yet had a chance to get out and put these through their paces, but soon!
