When Even Whitefish Bring A Smile

After a frustrating week of no internet at the house, it is good to be back online.  Although I do have to say, it is damn nice to not have the distractions that being “connected” brings.  No Netflix, no mindlessly surfing the internet.  Got a lot of flies tied, read quite a bit, and just enjoyed hanging out in the quiet.  It’s good to unplug now and then.

Hell, I even got some fishing in.  Ethan and I ran all over the place trying to find water that wasn’t slushy.  Finally we ended up at a place on the Gallatin I haven’t fished in years. For whatever reason, I often overlook the Gallatin.  Maybe it’s just so close; it almost doesn’t feel like you’re going fishing when it takes less than 10 minutes to get to the river from the house.  Regardless, it does have a lot of great water and I need to invest more time in it.

The day on the water was a typical December fishing trip.  Lots of ice along the bank, in the rod guides, all over the river.  Ethan quickly caught a couple whitefish out of the bridge pool, and picked up a couple of rainbows as we moved downriver.  This access is usually super crowded in warmer months, but today we had the water to ourselves.

The fishing could have been better, but every whitefish brought to hand brought a smile with it.  For a day’s fishing in December, I’ll count that as a good day.
