Support Your Local Fly (and Outdoor) Retailer on Shop Small Saturday

SMS300DSOn a weekend seemingly entirely given over to rampant consumerism (at least in the eyes of some) we’d encourage you to support your local small outdoor retailer on this Small Shop Saturday.

Most small fly fishing and other niche outdoor retailers are run by hard-working, passion-driven aficionados of their sport who work their butts off to bring you the gear and trinkets you need to get out and have fun and provide a healthy serving of knowledge and shepherding along the way.

They deserve a little love and respect during the holiday season.

Unless you’ve personally struggled with ordering inventory six months out, managing cranky, asshat customers (not you of course, those other guys), faced the gut-wrench of making payroll Friday when there’s not enough cash to cover on Wednesday afternoon, battled the big guys who can squeeze you on the volume play and a handful of other joys that come with running a small business – you have no idea what some shops go through to keep the doors open.

And if you’re lucky enough to have a really good one in the neighborhood, let ‘em know how much you appreciate them today.
