There is a time that comes in the life of every fly fisherman when he looks at all the stuff he’s accumulated over the years and realizes that he really should sell some of it. Why? Because what better reason can you find than that to upgrade your gear?
To that end, I offering up for sale a few of my fishing odds and ends. First off is a St. Croix Legend Ultra Spey rod. The rod is a 7/8 weight, 13’ long, and breaks down into 4 pieces. I’ve had it for years, but have really only used it about half a dozen times. The rod itself is in great shape, all the guides are intact and unbroken, and even the cork looks barely used.
Here are some pictures of it in action:

My asking price for this is $325, and I’ll split the cost of shipping.
The reel seen on that rod is a Ross CLA 5, and it has been used as many times as the rod has. There are no scuffs, scratches or dings on it, and it balances out really well with that rod. The CLA isn’t anything fancy, but it is a workhorse. I might be willing to part with it as well, in a package deal with the rod. Email me or leave a comment if you have any interest in that.
Next up is one I’ve debated long and hard about. I have a Hardy Cascapedia MK III #5/6/7 classic style salmon reel. I bought this reel last year for my 6-weight switch rod, and it has been used a grand total of two times. There are some minor cosmetic scuffs on the outer rim of the reel, and little ding on the faceplate near one of the screws (I took the screws out to take a look inside when I was lining it up and the screwdriver slipped a bit). Otherwise it is in like new condition.
The classic style of this reel is one of those things that has always really appealed to me, especially when it’s being used for a two hand rod. It has a loud, satisfying click when line goes out, and just feels solid. Currently I have it lined up with about 100 yards of 20 lbs yellow Power Pro braided line as backing and a 6 weight Orvis long bellied switch line. The only reason I am selling it is because with that set up, the reel is pretty packed. I mean there is hardly any room at all when it’s all reeled in. I want to change over to a Scandi set up on my switch rod and there’s just no way I could fit it on that reel.

Retail price for this reel is $449, I would be willing to let it go for $349, including the line and backing. I am also thinking about selling my current switch rod – an Orvis Access 11’ 6-weight, and would be willing to make a deal on the whole package.
If you’ve got any questions about any of this, or would like more pictures, information, etc, either leave a comment or shoot me an email at jake [at] dryflymedia.com.
