Even though it really actually doesn’t help, booze does make you feel warmer on a cold day. Everyone knows this. Here in Montana, we are entering that season where the fishing is going to be cold. Water’s cold, air is cold, guides start icing up… Fun stuff.
Something a lot of fishermen (and outdoorsmen) in general turn to is a hip flask. It is small enough to fit in a pocket, and provides just enough booze to pass around a few times amongst the group and cheer the day up a bit when icicles start forming in your beard.
Ethan and I are headed down to a secret location today, and the weather is calling for 30 degrees, 15-20 mph winds, and 3-5 inches of snow. The fishing damn well better be awesome. What better way to try out a new Skagit line than conditions like that? At the store today I purchased a simple, unadorned hip flask. Not only will its contents provide a bit of cheer during our lunch of dehydrated backpacking meals, but can you think of a better way to celebrate a successful launch of the second issue of Swing the Fly?
See you on the water.
