Thirsty Thursday: Pumpkick Ale

Ah, fall.  Perhaps my favorite time of the year.  One thing I love about the changing seasons is the changing of the seasonal brews.  It seems like more and more breweries are offering up seasonal beers.  They’re only around for so long, and sometimes don’t come around but once.

pumpkickNew Belgium Brewing has always been a favorite of mine.  Not only are their staple beers damn good, but their array of seasonal offerings is robust to say the least.  Their fall seasonal this year is called Pumpkick.  I saw it in the store the other night for the first time and had to give it a shot.

As you might have gathered from the name, Pumpkick is a pumpkin ale, but with one extra ingredient that sets it apart from the rest.  Cranberry juice.  It adds a surprising punch of tartness and flavor that isn’t overwhelming, and compliments the beer quite well.

This brew is unique enough to warrant a place in the fridge for the next few months it is available.
