Thirsty Thursday: Celebratory Drinks

Every now and then, you come upon something worth celebrating.  Yesterday I got some news that certainly falls into that category.  More on that later, but it got me thinking.  What is a good way to celebrate good news?

Sure, there is always the celebratory dinner out, fishing trip, or party to have.  But what to drink when you’re celebrating?

I think the answer depends on how good the news is.  If it’s just your everyday goods news, like you found $5 in your pocket you forgot about, or your favorite fishing hole is empty of people, beer will suffice.  Make it a nice beer though.  Something Micro-brewed and pricey.

If it’s the more rare kind of good news such as catching a 10-lbs trout, getting a big raise at work, or finding out that that awesome girl really is into you, something better is called for.  Margaritas, mojitos, and anything that takes more effort to concoct than pulling the tab back.  And finally, if it’s really good news, like you’re getting married or won the lottery or something, go for the good stuff.  Champagne and scotch would fall into this category.

Something I enjoy about fishing is it’s full of moments that could be celebrated.  A great day of dry fly fishing, catching your first fish of a new species, landing the biggest fish you’ve ever seen… These are the kind of moments you should take a moment to soak in and enjoy.  They’re better when shared with people, and they’re better with a drink to mark the occasion.
