Getting Out Of Town

Last week, for the first time in almost a year and a half, I took a trip.  It’s really unusual for me to not have gone anywhere in the past 18 months, having grown up with lots of travel, road trips, visits, and other reasons to be out on the open road.  But couple being broke with a crappy car and you’ve got a good recipe for staying put.

Mark and SWMBO have been bugging me to come visit them in Washington since they first moved there.  Time off lined up for the family and we was able to finally make it happen.  Mark had some business to attend to out here, so I was able to drive back with him.

Mark and I have had some really great road trips over the years.  One thing we always look forward to on late night drives is George Noory’s Coast to Coast AM radio show.  When the wee hours of the night roll around and energy levels flag, you can put that on and be constantly thrilled and amazed by what some people believe.  On this particular drive we learned all about a shadow government of extra terrestrials that controls the world, portals to other dimensions, the “aura borealis”, and much more.  Interesting stuff.

The next few days were spent driving around, taking in the sights, eating lots of great food, and just hanging out with the family.  I was astounded by the sheer amount of water out there.  Not only is the Puget Sound right there, but there are numerous rivers, lakes and streams everywhere.  A drive around the O.P. took us over some water that even I, a trout bum who knows nothing about steelhead and salmon, had heard about.

While no fishing was had this trip, I’ll be back.  It was very intriguing to be an area I don’t know, and thinking about fish that I know nothing about.  Sometimes it’s good to start over from scratch.
