Mid afternoon yesterday, I would have sworn summer had come. Temperatures on the Missouri tipped into the mid eighties, and with the Big Sky sun beating down at dust blowing in the wind, I looked out of the shop window and thought it could be July.

Waders have been exchanged for sandals and billowy, quick-dry pants. Wading jackets and heavy fleece for solar flex shirts and ExOfficio button downs. Winter gloves for Buffs.

The warm weather is on its way.

FGP-DFM-13M2And though we’re forecasted to go back to more seasonal temperatures later this week, we’ve had a taste of the summer heat. It’s blissful after a damn long winter.

The air conditioning unit went into the wall in the shop this evening, another sure sign of the season’s profession.

Craig has come alive – we ran over forty shuttles on Saturday and saw the first season’s recreational tube floaters.

We’ve had fun clients trouping in and out of the shop over the weekend. Cheers to Leonard and his wife from Spokane, who stopped in for a nice chat this evening. And to a large group of gentlemen from Vermont and Massachusetts. I’ve come to very much value those who can carry on a decent conversation!

CaddisFest, the annual fundraiser for the Craig Volunteer Fire Department, and arguably one of the biggest party days in mighty Craig, is coming up next Saturday and we’re excited.

And ready.

Yeah, ready and excited.

It’s shaping up to be a very busy season on the mighty ‘Mo – both at the shop and from a Fire Girl Photography perspective. Days off are spent driving around the state meeting publishers and editors, chasing photo stories, and delving through piles of email and grant applications.

No rest for the wicked.
