Tomorrow is the last day for 2012 fishing licenses here in Montana. So pull your old one of your wallet, fishing vest, waders, or wherever you keep it and go get a new one. It’s one of those things that is better done now. If you wait until the urge to fish strikes, then you have to waste precious time that could be spent on the water getting a license. So do yourself a favor and get it now.
Getting a new license is always kind of exciting for me. All the papers are nice and crisp and not creased and folded. The print is bold and easy to read, instead of fading from months of sitting in my wallet. Getting your license signals the start of a new year in the outdoors, hopefully just as good as the last one.
I always get the Sportsman’s with Bear package – fishing, conservation, upland game birds, deer, elk, and bear. This year I included a bow and arrow license as well. As I write this I have all my tags spread out in front of me on the desk. I can’t help but feel a surge of energy and excitement. Where will these licenses and tags take me this year? What grand adventures are in store?
It’s just a piece of paper. But that piece of paper gives you the ability to do amazing things in amazing places. Don’t pass up the opportunity.
Here’s to the 2013 license year being even better than the last.
