When She Who Must Be Obeyed mentioned that she’d met a very conversant women recently who told her about a gathering of ‘fisher poets’ upcoming 22-24 February in Astoria (OR, of course) I didn’t think much about it at the time.
Trying to restore some order this morning after a (for the most part nifty) explosion of work this week I ran across the note I’d pecked out in Evernote about the event.
Read more about the Fisher Poets Gathering here; it’s a reunion of sorts for commercial fishers from near and far, though it appears to be dominated by fishers from the Pacific Northwest and Alaskan waters.

Having lived here on Puget Sound now for just shy of a year, we’ve been astounded at how sea life, sea food and those who carve out a living from the ocean are so deeply embedded in the fabric of life out here.
These folks aren’t the typical espresso-swilling, Patagonia-clad Seattle hipster or urbanite; these are throw-on-the-rain-gear and get-it-done kind of people who remind us a hell of lot of the old style Montanans we think about every day we’re away from home.
