New Year’s Eve is four days away, and it’s time to start thinking about how to celebrate the end of the year. Our family never made too big a deal about New Years, but to most folks it’s a time of partying.
Champagne and New Year’s Eve go together hand in hand. You can’t really have one without the other. A couple nights ago for Christmas Eve I picked up a bottle of Barefoot Bubbly Brut Cuvee champagne. I’m not much of a wine drinker, but on the rare occasion that I do imbibe the Barefoot brand has always seemed pretty good at a reasonable price.
Dinner that night was a ribeye steak with an onion blue cheese sauce (which is a damn good, by the way). Normally I would have chosen a good microbrew to go with that, but since it was a holiday the champagne fit a little better. It was not too dry and had a good flavor. A co worker is a bit of a wine snob, and I overheard a conversation in the lunch room about how there “simply isn’t a good champagne available under at least $30”. Pfft. The Barefoot Bubbly seemed pretty good to me.
New Year’s Eve I’ll be headed over to a friend’s house and I’ll most definitely be bringing a bottle of this with me.
