Thirsty Thursday: Moscow Mule

I come from a foodie family.  For as long as I can remember, Mark and SWMBO have been cooking and baking up masterpieces of the culinary art.  That trait was passed down to me, and even though I may be broke as hell at this stage of my life, it’s always fun to try new recipes, techniques and dishes.

One of the food magazines we all read puts out some damned impressive weekly emails with recipes, tips and tricks and sometimes even drinks.  I was perusing one of those today and came upon this recipe: The Moscow Mule.

If I’m drinking, odds are it will be beer.  If it’s not, then I like simple drinks.  Especially if I’m making them.  Sure, you can impressive a girl by making some fancy, multistep cocktail, but simplicity is a virtue.  That’s what really drew my eye to this one.

Making the Moscow Mule is simple.  Here’s what you need:

Ice
1/4 cup vodka
1 tbsp. fresh lime juice (fresh, damn it, not that from a jar stuff)
1/2 cup chilled ginger beer (Use a pricier, higher quality ginger beer like Reed’s)
1 lime wedge

Fill your favorite glass with ice, and add the vodka and lime juice.  If you’re like me, you never measure things under about a tablespoon, so just squeeze that lime juice into the glass.  You’ll get some bits and pieces of lime that way, adding to the kick of the drink.  Add the ginger beer and stir well.  Garnish with lime wedge and serve.

I’ve never tried this one personally, but will very soon.
