Thirsty Thursday: Hot Toddy (The Sequel)

With December just around the corner, winter is quickly closing in on us.  Some parts of the country have already entered into their cold weather pattern.  Unfortunately, that does not include Montana.  We’ll get cold and snow for a few days, then it will warm back up into the 40s and 50s like it was today.  Sad.

I don’t mind the cold weather, especially after a couple years of missing winter.  One of my favorite things on a cold snowy day (if I’m not out fishing) is to just hang out at home tying flies, watching movies or reading a book.  I wouldn’t want to do it too often, winter fishing calls too strongly, but now and then it’s great.

Most people reach for a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate on cold days, but another drink fits the bill pretty damn well.  The Hot Toddy.  Some of you may sneer at that, calling it a yuppy’s drink, but give it a shot.  It has many variations, but here is my favorite.

Whisky  (Wild Turkey’s American Honey works great)
1 Mug Lemon Tea
1 Lemon
Honey

Brew the tea, only filling the mug about 3/4 full.  Cut the lemon in half and squeeze one half into the tea.  Top it off with whisky.  The tea to whisky ratio can vary depending on the weather outside, who you are stuck inside with, and your level of the shack nasties.  Add a healthy dollop of honey and stir.

The freshly squeezed lemon juice is what really makes this drink.  And it is very good as a warming drink after you get off the river.

And yes, I know I already posted this recipe back in May, but it’s too good to only share once.
