Thirsty Thursday: Hard Cider

One of the things that makes people all warm and fuzzy inside about fall is apples.  Hot apple pie coming out of the oven, the apple trees out back loaded with fresh fruit, eating an apple on a late season float trip, whatever your fall apple memory is, run with it.  But there is one more thing that apples give us: apple cider.

I’m not talking about the apple cider you make on the stove and give your kids on a chilly day, I’m talking about hard cider.  The good stuff.  Hard cider is one of those drinks that is often overlooked in favor of beer, wine, or other cocktails.  But take a moment and appreciate it.  Fall is the best season for it, might as well try it out.

With hard cider you can go as cheap or as pricey as you want.  You can buy a fancy bottle for $20-$30 bucks, or a six pack for $7.  If you haven’t tried it before, stick with the six pack.  If you are like me and broke, always stick with the six pack.  I’m sure the fancy stuff is great and well worth trying though.

Really the only hard cider I have ever tried has been Hornsby’s.  It was their crisp apple flavor I believe. The occasion was rather sad, Mark and I had driven five hours back to our old barn property in Kalispell for business reasons.  Seeing it in its run down state was rather depressing.  So we grabbed some Taco Bell, and hit the grocery store for snacks for the road trip back in the morning.  Somehow I think we ended up with ding dongs and hard cider, watching old reruns back at the hotel.  Why is there never anything good on when you need there to be?

Since fall is cider season, give it a shot.
