When will fall ever get here? That’s a question we hear a lot these days in the shop, and around town. It’s a question being asked a lot around the country right now too I believe. A lot of the Rocky Mountain West is still on fire, temperatures are still high, and there hasn’t been a whole lot of rain headed our way.
Fall weather out here in Bozeman is more like 50 degrees and drizzling. Looking at the forecast now, it’s still going to be in the 80s for the next week. On the plus side, night time temps have been dropping down into the 30s and 40s, which is lowering water temps in the area.
Rumor has it the big browns are beginning to move up the Madison from Hebgen Lake. Sounds like it’s still hit or miss for the most part, but it should only get better. The Lower Madison and the Gallatin close to town are still getting pounded by the damn college kids, it’s going to be busy until the weather turns shitty.
Me personally, I love fishing in shitty weather. The fishing is usually great (especially in the fall) and there is practically no one on the water. Those cold fall days with a constant drizzle, that is perfect.
When will that weather come? Damned if I know. But it can’t happen soon enough.
