Summer is probably the best season for drinks. The weather is hot, the days are long, and any good day on the water should be finished off with a good, cold drink. Most of the time, my drink of choice is a good beer. But sometimes you have to expand your horizons a bit.
Last night, after a particularly shitty day at work, I watched Confluence Films newest movie Connect again. This is probably my favorite film they have done so far (I was especially fond of the segment from Yellowstone). They also filmed a piece of the film in Cuba, which got me thinking two things: 1) I need to go to Cuba, and 2) I need a Mojito.
The Mojito is one of those things that people just think about when Cuba comes up in the conversation. It’s light and refreshing, and makes a perfect summer drink. I can’t make any at the moment due to the fact that I am flat broke, but if I could afford the booze here’s the recipe:
2 mint sprigs (some people like up to a dozen)
1/4 cup white rum
2 tablespoons simple syrup
1 tablespoon plus a healthy dash fresh lime juice
1 healthy dash bitters
Crush one sprig of mint in a cocktail shaker. Pour in the rum, simple syrup, lime juice, and bitters. Fill the shaker with ice, put the lid back on (always an important step) and shake. Strain, and garnish the glass with the other mint sprig. Throw in a couple limes wedges if you feel like it.
Super simple, and damn good.
