It is the end of an era. Mark and I have made the painful decision to sell our beloved Jeep. She has been with us through the good times and the bad times, but all she’s been doing lately is sitting in a storage unit for the past almost three years. We agreed it would be better if someone was enjoying and using the Jeep, rather than it just sitting around.
We named the Jeep Billie Girl, after Oracle Jones’ horse in the movie “The Hallelujah Trail”. At one point in the film, Oracle says, “Come on now, Billie Girl, take me slow and take me true”. No better words can describe the Jeep than that. We even planned to get that quote inscribed on a plaque to mount on the dash.
Billie Girl makes a great fishing vehicle. The kind that will get you down any bad road you want, back to the places most people don’t visit. Not being able to drive very fast, she kinda puts you in the fishing mindset right off the bat. The world just seems to slow down when you drive. It just makes you more relaxed.
The Jeep is a 1983 CJ-7, with 129,300 miles on it. It’s got some upgrades on it, like a conversion to fuel injection. (Makes it so damn much easier, not gonna lie). We’ve rebuilt and recored the radiator, replaced the alternator and starter, and have rebuilt the clutch. The body is in amazing shape.
It’s got a four speed manual transmission and a soft top. Mark and I have been in the middle of a restoration for years, but have just run out of time lately. It has the original seats, including the back one.
We are asking $6,500 for this Jeep. We paid almost $9,000 for it several years ago. It’s in great shape, and would make someone a great fishing vehicle.
If a Chi Wulff reader buys it, I’ll throw in a couple secret fishing spots too….
