Thirsty Thursday: The Wish List

in Thirsty Thursday

I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th, and survived the fireworks with little or no damage to person and property.  Many of you are nursing hangovers this morning, I’m sure.  Good luck.

Last night on the way to a fireworks show at my girlfriend’s friend’s house, we stopped in the grocery store for a six pack of drinks.  Being the responsible one, I was driving and limited myself to two beers all night.  It sucks being the grown up sometimes.

I saw a beer I hadn’t seen before: Grizzly Wulff Wheat, by Yellowstone Valley Brewing Co.  Now, any local microbrew is going to get me excited.  One named after fishing, flies, or rivers, doubly so.  Anything with “Wulff” in the name, be it Royal, Grizzly, or Chi, well, let’s just say I have a personal bias for it.

I didn’t get a chance to try it out last night, but someday soon for sure!  It got me thinking too.. What beers have I not tried yet that I want to?  Here is my top five wish list:

  • The aforementioned Grizzly Wulff Wheat.  I’ve never tried anything by Yellowstone Valley Brewing, but obviously someone is a fly fisherman, so they must be good people.
  • Double Haul IPA by Kettlehouse Brewing Co out of Missoula.  I’ve been a big fan of their Cold Smoke Scotch Ale since I first tried it, and this one is named after fishing.  Good chi.  It comes in cans too, so you can drink it on the river.  Better chi.
  • Baetis Belgian Orange by Madison River Brewing.  They say it’s a lighter wheat beer, with a lower alcohol content and hop influence.  I just like Baetis.
  • Summer Honey from Big Sky Brewing Co.  These guys always come up with great seasonal brews, and summer only comes around once a year.
  • Bitch Creek Extra Special Brown from Grand Teton Brewing Co. out of Victor, ID.  There are so many good beers being made in Montana, I haven’t really seen much need to go beyond the state line in my choices.  But this one looks pretty damn good.

There are a ton of beers being made with fishy labels, names, or influences.  Why would you want to drink anything else?
