The 2012 Ryabaga Camp Guide Team

It’s been a wild week here in the Russian tundra.  On the job training has pretty much consisted of jumping into situations and learning as I go.  Slowly things are coming together and I came to the realization this morning that I’m feeling rather at home listening to the majority of conversations in Russian.

Today is the final day of fishing for this group of anglers; we say goodbye to them tomorrow morning and then welcome a new group of twenty-four tomorrow early afternoon. It will be a busy turn around day.

The supply helicopter arrived yesterday evening and brought a bounty of fresh vegetables and fruit.  I’m continually surprised how well we eat; Alex Cataldi, our head chef from Argentina, is doing an admirable job making creative, high quality meals. It’s gratifying to unload the supplies from the helo and see it on the table a few hours later.

Ran up river yesterday afternoon to see the River Guard encampment at Kolmac.  It was a cold, windy day but despite the chill it was incredible to be out on the water.  I’m very anxious to get some more time to photograph anglers and learn the ways of the spey rod myself.  I was able to throw a line for a few minutes yesterday and brought in a reasonable grisling.  Beats computer work any day.

All in all, not a bad day at the office.

Cheers from Russia.

A stormy day off up the Purnache River
