Fire Girl Jess and I happened to be headed to the Yellowstone River on the day this fire blew up in the Park. We’d fished a bit on the Yellowstone (very difficult baetis day), saw a puff of smoke and thought nothing else about it.
As we were driving topping the ridge between Canyon and Norris (on the way to the Firehole for afternoon Caddis) I glanced back for some reason and we saw the plume that had blown up in a flash. We headed back and grabbed a run of images.
Jess caught the firebomber spotter plane almost right in the middle of the dark plume shadow on this one.
She was cleaning up some old images and fired a couple over today…
