Yesterday was an important holiday. No, I’m not talking about anybody’s birthday or President’s Day or anything like that. Something much more fun.
National Margarita Day.
So today for Thirsty Thursday, we put aside the craft beer and pull out the tequila and salt.
Last night, we all went down to a local restaurant, The Iguana Grill, the observe the holiday. This place has the best margarita that I’ve tried down here: The Golden Iguana. Just one of these is enough to mellow a mood and bring a smile to anyone’s face.
But, if our blender wasn’t broken due to someone trying to make a fruit smoothie with frozen fruit *cough*Jess*cough*, tonight I would be making my own low budget version.
Here’s what you do:
Fill up the blender pitcher about 3/4 full with ice cubes.
Add one can frozen limeade mix.
Taking the now empty can, fill it 3/4 full with tequila and top off with triple sec.
Blend well.
Rim some big glasses with salt, pour and enjoy.
Is it the classiest margarita out there? Hell no. Is it simple? Yes. It is good. Hell yes.
A lot of people use margarita mixes and all that, but I’ve found this simple recipe bests them all. If you want a stronger drink, fill the can up completely with tequila, dump it in, then add 1/3 can of triple sec.
You can also dress this recipe up a bit but adding the freshly squeezed juice of a lime or two. That adds a really good fresh zing to it. And a lime wedge stuck on the rim of the glass is a nice touch..
Mark tried out this margarita recipe around the holidays and it was quite good.. A nice variation on a classic. Be forewarned about the habenero infused tequila, it will bite back.
Talking to some folks back home it seems winter has set back in to the better places of the world, so now would be a great time to whip up a pitcher of margaritas, put some Jimmy Buffett on, and dream of the tropics.
Cheers.
