Why I Fish: I Like the Big Blue

in Why I Fish

As a fly fisherman I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time stumbling in, around, over and through freestone cricks, creeks, streams and rivers.

My carp chasing, rough fish adoring friends derisively label me a dyed-in-the-wool blue-liner.

While that label fits like a well-worn pair of scuffed-up Merrill mocs, the lure of the ‘big blue’ waters – the open bayou, the laguna, the bay and the Gulf – is sometimes near irresistible.

Wide open, windy and occasionally unforgiving, the waters of coastal Texas and Louisiana beckon with the promise of redfish, sea trout, flounder and even tarpon or two.

I like the big blue.
