Work in the real world kept most of our gang off the water and with nose to the grind stone this past holiday weekend.
We had a few hours to burn in San Antonio and found ourselves within striking distance of a favorite used book store.
Kicking around these places always yields an armload of great reads at amazing prices, and lo and behold I stumbled across this piscatorial treasure.
Tucked in an obscure corner of the store was a slip covered, hardbound (sewn) edition of The Compleat Angler in what appeared to be pristine condition.
It’s not that old (published by Peter Pauper Press in January of 1966), but was indeed in wonderful condition, unmarked, with high brow engravings by Boyd Hanna.
It was priced at a whopping $10, with another 2 bucks off for the Memorial Day sale. Hot damn.
I snapped a phone pic and emailed a few friends who claim to be in the know and they’ve suggested it could be worth anywhere from ‘the paper it’s printed on’ to 4 figures.
No coloring the pictures in this one.
