I mentioned several days ago we’d run down to Jackson late last week and caught the now pretty damned impressive Arnica fire in YNP just as it blew up.  We were able to snag some nifty pics, some of which just might end up in Fish Can’t Read or in a series here on the blog down the road a bit – that said, admittedly these are not the ‘pick of the litter’ but offer a perspective on the interaction of fading sunlight and the plume from a big fire.

The first pic above was looking over Lewis Lake as the fire chugged along at about 630 on the 25th; the rest of the pics were taken from the Firehole drainage below Old Faithful after zipping over the pass, obviously nearer sunset with great colors reflected in the plume…..

The plume from the Arnica had blown all the way down to the Snake River Valley along the Tetons earlier in the day….
