Jake is the father of Noah who we’ve written about a few times here and in Fish Can’t Read as well.

Jake well describes some of the myth and mystery of Yankee Jim and provides a local’s view of the fly fishing as well.

Great read.

First – it’s Father’s Day – we salute Fathers far and wide today and hope that all fathers have at least a shot at going fishing today.

Second – it’s Naked Hiking Day. Seems every year on the first day of summer it’s Naked Hiking Day. Unfortunately the overwhelming majority of pictures available to illustrate Naked Hiking Day are of over-weight, pasty white, 40+ year old men.

Last year when I tried to hike naked in Yellowstone, reports of a grouchy albino grizzly moving very slowly along several trails surfaced the next day, and I forgot to apply sunscreen everywhere.

Trust me – sunscreen is an essential for naked hiking day. And I have it on the best authority that it’s also fine to wear a hat as you venture out in the buff as well.

There are a lot of families out there who undoubtedly feel the crushing pain of a lost son, daughter, father or mother today. Our hearts are with them.

We’d also encourage you to consider donating time or money to the several great organizations serving veterans by taking them to the healing waters of the great rivers and introducing them to fly fishing. Most of these organizations are doing a great and much needed work and would hugely benefit from your support.

Here are a couple of important Montana topics to note today, as well as a bit of general history.

On this day in 1910 Congress authorized the creation of Glacier National Park. If you’ve not ventured up there during your prior travels out this way, it is a must visit destination.

Wayne over at WillFishForWork astutely noted last week that Montana HB 400 (aptly titled An Act Revising the Alcohol Content of Beer) passed. Here’s the money paragraph:

HB 400, AN ACT REVISING THE ALCOHOL CONTENT OF BEER, and no oh puritan hearts, not downward- but upward. Yes, we are now up to 14%, almost double what it was before. This led me to a little light beer math. Even if you are hung up on beer calories you can chuck the “Miller Lite” and drink a glass of 14% Montana micro brew that actually tastes good. You get twice the kick and and about the same calories from one micro than you would from two of the old “taste great-less filling” swill meisters.

On this day in 1969 the Monty Python Comedy Troup formed. They got better.

Here are couple of other notable things April 15th is known for –

On this day in 1912, at 2:27 AM, the ‘unsinkable’ luxury liner, the Titanic, sank off the coast of Newfoundland en route from Southampton, England to NYC.

On this day in 1992 – Billy Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest Kelly were inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Live long and prosper.
