River - YNP - Lamar

The big news over on the Lamar is a small lightning strike started fire on Druid Peak.  When the official press release came out yesterday, officials said the fire was less than a half-acre in size, but is expected to grow slowly.  Firefighters are keeping an eye on it.  Just a heads up.

The Lamar has been shaping up nicely.  Flows are coming down and the water is clearing up.  There is over a foot of visibility right now.  Expect the river to keep coming down, but the rains will muddy her up for a while.

The Lamar is still running at over 3,600 cfs, with it remaining over the 80th percentile for flows this time of year.  It could be fishable in some places in a week or so, but don’t even think about it now.

The Lamar is in sorry shape right now.  Flows are at about twice their normal levels.  The river won’t be fishable for another month at least.
I am sure this knowledge won’t stop at least the most adventuresome souls from going to see if conditions have improved over night, and I don’t blame them.  Hell, if [...]
