In all honesty, I hope you and yours are on the river, bay, or bayou today, or in the field chasing something cloaked in feathers or fur. Happy Thanksgiving today to all no matter where you and your clan happen to be.

When you’re back in camp or at the house, or if you’ve been stuck all day facing off pesky in-laws or other relations while you dutifully slaved over their meal, considering shaking up a few of these Cider House Rules cocktails.

The fresh apple cider and nice tequila make surprising good compadres, with a bit of fresh-squeezed lemon juice and a hint of cinnamon to keep things interesting.

Cheers my friends, and it’s not too early to being planning a fly fishing Thanksgiving excursion for next year.

1 and 1/2 ounces good blanco tequila
1 and 1/2 ounces fresh apple cider
1/2 ounce fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1/2 ounce club soda

Garnish: Ground cinnamon

If you’re going uptown with this one, coat the rim of your glass(es) with ground cinnamon.

Everything else goes into the shaker with ice; then shake, shake, shake.

Strain into an ice-filled (highball) glass and go to it.

Enjoy.
