First and foremost this Memorial Day 2017, a very deep, sincere, and sober thank you to the thousands of military, police and first responder families out there who have lost loved ones in service of their country. Their sacrifices are not, and will not, be forgotten.

You don’t really have to look very far to find someone impacted deeply by the loss of a loved one in service; reach out and touch them today with something personal and kind. Yes, it takes time and a bit of effort and creativity on your part; the investment in your neighbor and community will pay far richer dividends than shopping mattress and car sales today (when the hell did that become such a part of the day?).

And there’ll still be time for your masterpiece on the grill or smoker and raising a cold one in memory of those fallen.

Take the time to really remember today.
