The Maverick Boat Group (building Maverick, Hewes, Pathfinder and Cobia boats) has signed on as a principle sponsor of Bonefish and Tarpon Trust’s new Tarpon Acoustic Tagging Program.

The Tarpon Acoustic Tagging Program is a five-year study using acoustic telemetry to identify tarpon movement patterns and important habitats. It capitalizes on a large network consisting of thousands of acoustic receivers stretching across the Gulf of Mexico and along the coastline of the Southeastern US. This array of receivers will monitor the movements of some 50 tarpon tagged as part of the program.

Maverick, a longtime partner of BTT, extends its leadership support as signature sponsor of the new program through a marketing agreement with BTT. For every Maverick Boat sold, the company will donate a portion of the proceeds to the non-profit organization.

Well played, Team Maverick; it’s nice to see a company understand that meaningful sponsorship involves more than making edgy videos.

And dammit, if I can’t be rowing and fishing out of a classic wooden drifter, I’d rather be in a flats skiff poling over a skinny flat or bayou. See you on the dock at 530 tomorrow morning.
