The AK Way

This is a fly fishing film that consists of the beauty of Alaska mixed with a lot of underwater footage of amazing salmon schools. Our flies pass by them, and often times they are seen peeling away to chase our presentations. It was fun to capture this on film! Alaska is a very special place for fly fishing. There is a broad myth that many of the salmon caught in Alaska are snagged. This has not been my experience during any of my three trips there.

I filmed this in 2014 when a few of my brothers and I took an Alaska fly fishing trip that had many memorable moments. It was a good salmon run that year for the chum and silver salmon. We visited our good friends the Butlers and caught many amazing fish each day. Alaska fishing has never been so much fun for me.

One of my favorite accomplishments of the film was by my brother Brad. He had never been fly fishing before, and after only a few days he was casting like he’d been doing it for year. He is the guy in the film double hauling and throwing the tight loops.
