Monday Mantra: Don’t Forget The Cutthroat

Fall is the time of big browns.  Everyone knows that.  Especially all the people lining the well known spots on the Upper Madison right now.  At the shop we’re hearing reports of shoulder to shoulder fishing in some places already.  It’s only going to get busier for a while… Worth it?  Probably.

But this crush of anglers in the fall serves another purpose.  It forces the solitude seeking fisherman to seek out new water.  Unknown water.  Friend Ethan Markie did just that recently and sent me the following images.  It wasn’t brown trout that he found, but he was fine with that.

They didn’t see many people and found some nice fish.  Even the vaguest hint of naming the location on these pages was followed by threats of violence, so don’t even ask.  You’ll just have to find it for yourself.

Fall is the season of the brown trout, but don’t forget about the other options the river has to offer.
