Last weekend saw another opening day, and an important one for the region: the opening of the fishing season for Yellowstone National Park.  Not only does Memorial Day mean the start of tourist season and “summer”, but every year it brings the start of fishing in the park.

Yellowstone is one of those places that brings people from all over the world, and for good reason.  It is unlike any other place on earth.  There are few other places that have the variety of wildlife, geography, scenery and incredible fishing.  There is more water in the Park than you could literally fish in a lifetime.

Opening day brings with it a year full of hope and plans and dreams of new water and big fish.  As of right now, friends and I have several bigger trips planned for the coming year.  The Lamar, Slough Creek, several unnamed creeks and streams that we can’t seem to find any research or info on.  (That’s always a good sign).

We still have a few more weeks before things really get busy with the summer tourists, so us locals should enjoy it while we can.  The early season Baetis on places like the Firehole can be just incredible.  The reports I’ve heard from the weekend have been very positive.  Now is the time.

Another fishing season in the Park is upon us.  Cheers my friends!
