You Should Be Reading One of the Best in the Game: Singlebarbed

We’ve said it before and it’s worth saying again.

If you’re not reading Keith Barton’s Singlebarbed, you’re missing out on a periodic stream of fly fishing (and other) wisdom from one of the best in the game. And he’s recently updated his site.

KB’s works are somewhat of an acquired taste.

He is without a doubt one of the most well-read writers in the fly fishing game these days, a characteristic revealed by his well-crafted, wry and often pointed commentary. KB’s missives often require one to slow down, take a breath, sip your coffee or cold one and think about something, not an activity every brobrah, hipster or Western redneck in the fly fishing game is inclined to do very often.

On a side note, recently a guy I worked with, a fly fishing professional in pretty much name only, dismissed KB (along with Tom Chandler and the Gink and Gasoline guys among others) as being “too long-winded, irrelevant and preachy – nobody spends five minutes reading a blog post these days…”. It should be noted this particular gentleman had (in all fairness he might be better now) the attention span of a sleep-deprived five-year old with a constantly dinging phone in his hand. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, though not all opinions have been crafted on solid foundations.

Singledbarbed isn’t a ‘look at the pretty pictures, 15 second scan and click on’ sorta blog. Clearly not an everyday poster, KB’s Singlebarbed is well worth a visit if you’ve never read it or haven’t visited in a while.

None of us have met him face to face, though we’ve interacted enough over the years (including being on the receiving end of some of the sagest advice ever delivered on a business project we ran by him a few years ago) to welcome him at our campfire anytime.
