Thirsty Thursday: The Seasonal Change

Spring is upon us!  Even in the places currently being blasted with snow over and over it is undeniable that days are getting longer, warmer days are sneaking in, and the signs of spring are everywhere.  Here in SW Montana the grass is greening, buds are showing up on trees, and song birds are singing.  It’s one of my favorite times of year.  Something else is showing up too… The seasonal brews from the local breweries.

Pretty much every town that has a local brewery has access to some great seasonal beer.  Now that winter is on it’s way out so are the deep and rich beers of the colder months.  Bring on the lighter beers with flavors that remind you of the season!  One brewery here in Montana that does a great job with seasonal brews is Big Sky Brewing.  They’ve always got something new and different to match the season.

Two of their beers that are out now (or will be very soon!) are the Heavy Horse Scotch Ale and the Summer Honey Ale.  The Heavy Horse is a much richer beer and is perfect for those cloudy, chilly, rainy days that offer up some great fishing in the Spring.  As the days warm and summer approaches, the Summer Honey is a perfect pairing for a riverside lunch during the warmer days in the late spring and early summer.  I’d highly recommend giving them a shot.

Regardless of where you are reading this, I’d be willing to bet you can track down some kind of good seasonal beer in your neighborhood.  They’re worth finding.
