Two Days to Offer Your Two Cents For Clean Water

There are only two days left to offer your sage commentary in support of proposed clarifications to the Clean Water Act.

There’s been bucketfuls of ink and millions of pixels spilled discussing the issue over the previous months, expressing a fair amount of logic with a side helping of frothing rhetoric thrown in by the usual suspects and from all perspectives.

Echoing the sentiments of Western explorers of the last century, we’ve with those who have been saying for years that clean, healthy waters are the lifeblood of what we as outdoor recreationists hold dear (with unrestricted access to public lands being a damned close second).

For what it’s worth, I think the TRCP has done the best job of detailing the issues; here’s their Clean Water landing page and they’ve even developed a detailed resource they’ve tagged the Sportsmen’s Tackle Box with links out to a number of key resources – including the EPA rule proposal and lots of other commentary.

We understand the bulk of the concerns expressed by opponents, particularly those in the small, family ag community who counter that the government’s recent track record does in no way prove it worthy of being an objective, honest, cooperative administrator. A long time friend in Montana, fourth generation farm and ranch family patriarch, is convinced the level of recent competency demonstrated by so-called leaders in DC is lower than it’s been his entire life.

But there’s too much at stake here to not clarify the issues, prevent further acceleration of wetland losses and then move on to further modifications of the rule(s) as needed.

This issue is simply too important to let pass; please use the TRCP’s secure comment form to throw your two cents in today.
