No, not that kind of packing. I’m not loading my life into the Suby once more and hitting the road. Life’s a little too interesting for that right now.

I’m getting ready to fly out to Montana Monday for the Orvis Guide Rendezvous. It’s a business trip, and a busy business trip, but I’m looking forward to doing a bit of rendezvousing of my own with folks in the fly fishing world.

And hanging out with some Montanans once more.

And pulling the camera out of the deep freeze, and my casting skills (meagre as they are) along with it.

As you can see from the image, the duffel is being loaded with an amalgamation of fly rods, waders (they pack down so small… where have they been all my life?) and camera gear. Most of the camera kit will be flying with me in my ever-trusty shoulder bag, and I’m piling in a few changes of clothing. But, really, after camera gear and fishing gear, I’m okay with only a few clothes for a week, as long as I can layer.

Priorities.

Looking forward to some Montana road time, breathing in some mountain air, and catching up with the gang at Headhunters in Craig. I may be an Orvis kid now, but the Headhunters hat is definitely on the packing list.

In other news, it’s been a week of working on some pretty awesome projects for Orvis, then retiring to FGP HQ to work on freelance work. It’s contest and grant season, which means writing artist statements, compiling image submissions and writing essays endlessly. Lots of computer time, and I’ll be glad to see it ebb in favor of spring and summer time behind the camera.

I have been able to finally create a tearsheets page on the Fire Girl portfolio site. With most of my print publications being MIA somewhere in last fall’s moves (really hoping they are somewhere in a storage unit in Washington State) I’m dredging the deep for PDFs of some of the older pieces. Feel free to browse and tell me what you like / don’t like with the layout. Eyeing a website redesign in the months to come.

Next week’s post may be delayed a few days in favor of the madness of the Guide Rendezvous. Bear with me, though, this is the beginning of fishing images in this series (finally, I know.)

Next week: Big Sky Country.
