OMGLmShrtgeEver since our little sojourn down to Texas back in 2010 I’ve been squeezing a big slice of lime into a tall glass of water every danged day and sipping away.

It was a great way to camouflage the unpalatable Austin tap water back in the day and became a faithful habit that, for a buck a week (yep, not that long ago limes were 5 for a buck here on the left coast), was one of life’s simple pleasures.

Having a washed cache of limes in the fridge also made it damned handy when that all but irresistible vision of a freshly squeeze margarita popped into my head.

Last week I was shocked to see limes running $.68 to .70 apiece here and now it’s mainstream news – there’s officially a lime shortage.

This MySanAntonio article blames supply chain issues, drought and increasing demand while at Salon they’re implicating flooding and a bacterial tree infection.

Dammit either way.
