Fun with (Bogus) Maps: How Much Snow Does it Take to Shut Down Fishers, Skiers and other Outdoorsy Folks

This more than likely utterly bogus map was bouncing around twitter yesterday, supposedly representing the amount of snow that it takes to shut down school for the day in various counties around the country.

For the record, when our kids were elementary school age, several 20+ inch snows in Utah and Montana only scored late arrival days. It usually took 2 feet or more to get school cancelled and on those days the ski resorts would be overrun with (delinquent) school children, including ours.

We’d submit that the map much more likely reflects the amount of snow that it just might take these days to shut down fly fishers and some hunters around the country, though the die hard skiers we know don’t typically stop at anything when there’s feet of fresh powder to chase.

And some days you just have to fish, no matter what the weather’s doing.
