Thirsty Thursday: Spiced Apple Cider

Nothing brings a good Christmas party up to the next level like a good punch or mixed drink.  It gets people talking and mingling and helps shed some of the awkwardness that can come with parties like that.  While there are lots of good looking drinks out there, this recipe for Spiced Apple Cider caught my eye.  A warm cup of cider is perfect on chilly nights.

You will need:

  • 1 gallon fresh, dark apple cider
  • 1 tablespoon whole allspice
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 4 cloves (whole cloves)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • Brandy or Bourbon

Mix the cider, allspice, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon sticks into a large pot.  Cut the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape the seeds out, then add the bean.  Bring the cider to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce heat and cook at just below a simmer for about an hour, until the flavors start to meld together.  Strain the cider to remove the solids, add the desired amount of booze and enjoy.

Remember.. Girls love a guy who can cook, and the same can be said for ones that make good drinks.  Enjoy.
