Thirsty Thursday: Montana Beer

One of the things that I’m really going to miss once I move is the local beer.  Sure, the Seattle area does host its fair share of microbrews (more than its fair share it actually sounds like), but there is just something about Montana beer that is just damn good.

Perhaps it’s the names.  Any beer named after flies, fishing, rivers, or have any kind of fishing artwork on the label is bound to be a good one.  Salmonfly Honey Rye, Double Haul IPA, Trout Slayer, Hopper Pale Ale.. All good beers.

Supporting a local business and industry always stirs a feeling of hometown pride too.  When a brewery in your home town or state makes a damn good beer, knowing they are just down the street is one more good reason to enjoy it.

While a couple of the brews I love can be found as far west as Idaho, most of them get pretty scarce once you cross state lines.  I guess I’ll just have to load up before I leave…

Next time you’re in Montana, drink local.  It’s worth it.
